Joat is a vicious pirate and once proud owner of a ship called the Wraith. This mighty sea vessel was stolen by Ioz, who used it to take advantage of Ren, the boy on a quest for the fabled Thirteen Treasures of Rule. Enraged by Ioz's desperate act, Joat scours the high seas of Mer in search of Ioz and his cohorts to get back what is rightfully his.

Legend has it that Joat was quite a swordsman until he lost his hand in a fierce duel. The loss of his hand made Joat so bitter that he replaced it with a wicked metal claw that made him even more dangerous, troublesome and battle-ready.
