Optimus Prime is the largest, strongest and wisest of all Autobots. Feels his role is the protection of all life, including Earth-life. Fights unceasingly to defeat the Decepticons. Splits into three autonomous modules: 1) Optimus Prime... the brain center known as the Commander; 2) Roller, the Autobot scout car... a spy who operates up to 1200 miles away; and 3) Autobot Headquarters... the combat deck equipped with a versatile mechanic/artillery robot. Injury to one module is felt by the other two.
Many have tried, but the only true natural born leader for the Autobots is Optimus Prime. The character that has been created around this ex Diaclone figure has become a legend in years. The figure itself consists of a truck complete with trailer and many accessories. The truck itself is a part die-cast, part plastic detailed model, with rubber tires, chromed detailing and an opening front that in its "previous life" allowed two tiny Diaclone drivers to seat in. The truck itself can be transformed (in a few easy steps) into a partially articulated robot. Its trailer could be opened to reveal a battle station, complete with two missile launchers, a rising repairing pod, rotating radar dish, and a scout vehicle that could be launched from a spring loaded ramp. The package also included a gas pump, fists and a rifle for the robot figure and missiles for the launchers.
