William T. Riker was born in Valdez, Alaska, on Planet Earth in the year 2335. He is the son of Kyle Riker, a civilian Starfleet strategist on Tholian relations. William graduated eighth in his Starfleet Academy in 2357. After 12 years of service, he had already been decorated five times. His first assignment was aboard the U.S.S. Pegasus, under the command of Captain Erik Pressman. He was later stationed on Betazed, then served on the U.S.S. Potemkin, where he was commended for exceptional valor. Promoted to commander, Riker became the executive officer aboard the U.S.S. Hood under Captain Robert deSoto before being selected by Jean-Luc Picard for the Enterprise-D. Riker has remained at Picard’s side on the newly commissioned Enterprise-E.

As "Number One" Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise under Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, Riker is responsible for maintaining the ship and her crew in top condition. He is also in command of "Away Teams" -- the landing parties beaming down into the middle of the action!
Likes to socialize. Comfortable with command situations, though persistent in wanting to expand beyond his limitations. Enjoys playing games of skill and strategy, such as 3D chess. He is especially fond of poker. A competent negotiator and statesman, though he prefers a course of action.
