During the May 11, 2007 episode of SmackDown!, a segment featuring Terry Gordy jr., now refereed to as Jesse Dalton was broadcasted. Originally depicted alongside his in story brother Festus as hillbillies, the WWE quickly decided to change the Dalton Boys gimmick. On the June 29, 2007 episode of SmackDown!, promotional videos began to air captioned "Jesse and Festus on..."and during each segment Jesse would speak on a subject while Festus stared absently off into the camera completely non responsive to his partners comments. Jesse and Festus officially debuted in the ring on the October 5, 2007 episode of SmackDown!, where they defeated Mike Tolar and Chad Collyer. No longer presented as brothers, their new gimmick involved Festus transforming into a focused and aggressive competitor as soon as the bell rang, in contrast to his absent-minded character. When the match concluded, Festus returned to his "normal" persona. On the October 16, 2007 episode of ECW, Jesse and Festus made their first appearance on the ECW brand as part of a "Talent Exchange" between ECW General Manager Armando Estrada and acting SmackDown! General Manager Vickie Guerrero. They achieved victory over their notable opponents, Elijah Burke and Nunzio.

On the November 9 episode of SmackDown!, Jesse and Festus faced their first WWE loss in a 10-Man Tag Team Battle Royal. This match determined the number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship and included other teams like Deuce 'n Domino, The Major Brothers, Shannon Moore and Jimmy Wang Yang, and William Regal and Dave Taylor. They suffered another defeat at the hands of WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz on the November 27 episode of ECW, and again on the December 7 episode of SmackDown!.

Following a short break, vignettes featuring Jesse explaining Festus' condition and hinting at a potential cure for it aired.The team returned on February 8, 2008, on SmackDown, defeating Deuce 'n Domino. Festus appeared unchanged, or possibly even more aggressive than before. They continued their success by defeating Morrison and Miz once again in a non-title match on the February 29 episode of SmackDown. However, when they had a title opportunity on the March 21 episode, they were unable to secure a victory.

Throughout the remainder of 2008, they engaged in an intermittent feud with Miz and Morrison. During this time, they underwent a gimmick change that commenced on the September 12 episode of SmackDown. Jesse and Festus arrived at the ring dressed as movers, with a hand truck, a large cardboard box, and moving supplies. After being attacked by Kenny Dykstra, the duo proceeded to "package" Dykstra and roll him away. They repeated this act the following week with Ryan Braddock and later with the set of Carlito's Cabana. This gimmick showcased SmackDown's transition to MyNetworkTV and featured overalls with the humorous fictional company name "MyMoving Company." However, after the show's move, they returned to their previous gimmick.

On April 15, 2009, Festus was drafted to the Raw brand as part of the 2009 Supplemental Draft, resulting in his separation from his tag team partner Jesse, who remained on SmackDown. Jesse disappeared from television for several months until June of 2010 when he reappeared with a rapper gimmick. He adopted the moniker Slam Master J and began teaming with Jimmy Wang Yang. The 2 had minimal success.
