After debuting in the California wrestling scene, Mike Knox began wrestling in the southern United States for several years before getting signed to WWE's new version of ECW. Knox originally was presented as a jealous boyfriend of Kelly Kelly, and began a feud with CM Punk over Kelly Kelly's flirtatious behavior. After several months appearing on ECW TV, Knox went down to Deep South Wrestling and then FCW. In late 2008, Knox returned to ECW and then moved to the Raw brand shortly thereafter. He debuted with a new look featuring long unkempt hair and a beard. He defeated D-Lo Brown in his first match on Raw and went on to attack Rey Mysterio multiple times. Knox later won a battle royal at a house show, earning a spot in the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out, but was eliminated by Chris Jericho. He was then drafted to the SmackDown brand in the 2009 Supplemental Draft and made his debut by defeating R-Truth. However, he experienced a losing streak, losing all the televised matches he participated in until his release in April 2010. On his last appearance, he debuted new elements to his character, showcasing knowledge of biology and the human anatomy to inflict pain on his opponents. His final match was a loss to JTG on the April 23, 2010 episode of SmackDown, and WWE announced his release on the same day.
In May 2012, Mike Knox competed in a dark match for TNA against Television Champion Devon. He later joined the Aces & Eights stable as a masked member. At Bound for Glory, Knox, still masked as Knux, and D.O.C. defeated Bully Ray and Sting, gaining full access to the Impact Zone. Knox made his official TV debut on January 3, 2013, as a revealed member of Aces & Eights after being unmasked by Kurt Angle. He attacked Angle the following week and lost his debut match to Sting. Knox participated in various matches, including a Lethal Lockdown match at Lockdown where Aces & Eights was defeated by Team TNA. He also took part in the World Cup of Wrestling and a six-man tag team match at Hardcore Justice 2. On November 21, 2013, at Turning Point, Aces & Eights disbanded after Bully Ray lost a match against Mr. Anderson with their memberships on the line.
In March 2014, Knux returned to his flood-ravaged hometown and began a story line involving his family's ruined carnival. He formed a new stable called The Menagerie, consisting of himself, Rebel, Crazzy Steve, and The Freak. Knux had various matches and moments, including defeating Kazarian, participating in the Gold Rush tournament, and winning an inter-gender elimination match. However, on May 19, 2015, Knux officially left TNA.
