In the distant past, a deviant branch of the Skrulls took up the investigation of black magic and became the shape-shifting alien sorcerers known as Dire Wraiths. During a time of Kree invasion, these Wraiths fled to the Dark Nebula and settled a new home on “Wraithworld”. There they remained isolated for a time, but soon the idea came to expand their malicious influence into the neighboring Golden Galaxy of Galador.

Confronted with certain destruction, the Prime Director of Galador issued a call for volunteers who were willing to sacrifice their humanity to become powerful cyborg warriors called Spaceknights. ROM was the first of these, and by his leadership, a thousand Spaceknights successfully defended their home world, dispersing the fleeing remnants of the Dire Wraith forces across the universe.

The Dire Wraiths have since spread their evil to other areas of the cosmos, including Earth, but always with ROM and the other Spaceknights fast on their heels!
