Surtur is the ruler of Muspelheim and wields the mighty Twilight Sword, a weapon capable of immense destruction. The Twilight Sword is said to possess the power to bring about Ragnarok, the apocalyptic event in which the Marvel Universe's Asgardian gods, including Thor, meet their end.

Surtur's primary goal is to initiate Ragnarok and bring about the destruction of Asgard and the entire universe. He seeks to engulf the nine realms in flames and reshape the cosmos to his liking. Throughout his existence, Surtur has made numerous attempts to bring about Ragnarok and conquer Asgard.

One of Surtur's most notable encounters with Thor and the Asgardians occurred in the storyline "Ragnarok." In this event, Surtur managed to obtain the Odinforce, the power of Asgard's ruler Odin himself. With this enhanced power, Surtur unleashed chaos and devastation upon Asgard, leading to a climactic battle with Thor and his allies.

Surtur has also clashed with other Marvel heroes, including the Avengers. His immense power and destructive capabilities make him a significant threat to the entire universe, and his appearances often result in epic battles and cataclysmic events.

Despite his immense power, Surtur has been defeated on several occasions by Thor and other heroes. However, due to his nature as an elemental force tied to the cycle of destruction and rebirth, Surtur has the ability to return and renew his quest for Ragnarok.
