Description:

Jim Bowie was born in Tennessee in 1795 but came to Texas in 1828. He was elected as colonel of the Texas Rangers in 1830. Bowie is best known as the leader of the Texas volunteers who fought and died defending the Alamo against the Mexican army of General Santa Anna. He is also famous for designing a special knife which bares his name. The "Bowie" knife was 15 inches long and weighed over two pounds.
