Baron Ironblood
Commander-in-Chief
Red Shadows

Character:

Baron Ironblood was the leader of the Red Shadows, as introduced by Palitoy in the early 80’s.

Design:

This is my 3rd go round with Baron Ironblood. My first custom was in 25A format and my second in mixed New Sculpt/Star Wars format.

The second custom really did the character justice. It featured a removable helmet. But the head (with no helmet on it) was very tiny. If anything, that’s my excuse to make this ARAH custom. And no helmet this time around, just Baron Ironblood and his white hair.

My first though was to use a Techno-Viper chest/back, but it had already been done flawlessly by LIVEVIL, so I looked for another ARAH chest/back that would work. The Thunder chest/back featured a V-shaped vest, making it a suitable starting point. The Storm Shadow arms work well to create the look of a bunched-up clean suit below the elbows. The Sci-Fi jackboots match for Baron Ironblood.

The Leatherneck waist piece had a drop-strap coming off of the waist belt, making it the perfect place for Baron Ironblood’s whip. Despite having a ton of Indiana Jones figures, I didn’t have any whips left (the last one I had went to a Croc Master custom). But I did have a tail from a NS Swamp Rat, which looks like it could be some kind of brutal-but-fancy mechanical whip once a handle was added to it. Problem solved.

Colors & Paint:

Based on the Palitoy figure, plus metallic grey for the sculpted-on equipment and mechanical whip. The Red Shadows logo, a great ToyHax decal, is placed on the thigh to face forward and because there’s too much gear on the narrow chest harness already. The hair isn’t snow white, it’s a silvery white with a bit of fading brown mixed in the back.

Sculpting & Modifying:

The head was cut from the ball neck, then glued to a 3D printed neck. The shoulder rivets, elbow rivets, and thigh screw inset are all epoxy filled and smoothed.

Thanks for looking.

Pictures
Front
The logo is bumped down to the thigh, but an armband might have been better.
Side
Keeping the belt pouches white as a callback to the Palitoy figure's jacket pouches.
Angle
Unlike the Palitoy figure, the Thunder chest/back keeps the red/black colors on the back of the figure.
