Spider-Man Transformers - Crossovers (Hasbro) - Wave 1 Rated 3.50 stars by Collector1 If anyone was skeptical over the Marvel Crossover series, it was most assuradly me. At a price point of over fifteen bucks for a series that would either suck eggs or be the greatest thing since the invention of the fart joke, I found that the Spider-Man fell somewhere inbetween, strataling the fence between utter garbage and fun little toy.
The vehicle mode is a fictional mock up of a motorcycle with the webmissles making the exaughts pipes. The front likes odd. They attempted to make it resemble Spidey's mask but it came off looking like a bug pokemon thing. The transformation is very simple with me only having to glance at the first part of the instructions before I was able to transform him into his robot mode. The robot mode looks like, well, robot Spider-Man so I guess they...[See More]
Sentinel Prime Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Deluxe Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 Color me impressed. I had never intended to purchase Sentinel Prime but finally broke down and was amazed at this guy. I popped him out and transformed him for the first time and was blown away at how smooth and natural the transformation was. The top slid back and formed his legs and the front became his back with his doors and tires becoming his arms and shoulders respectivly. The body is huge and intimidating with the head a stunning recreation of the Animation Model, astroroid sized chin and a disgusted grimace at being handled by an organic like your's truly. Much of the paint application for the head is already done, but a few touchs are need to complete the toy and bring out all the detail. Sentinal's lance and sheild are stored on top of his roof in vehicle mode and are held very...[See More]
Abomination Incredible Hulk - Movie (Hasbro) - Basic Series Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 Figured I might as well get a jump on the reviews, so here we go. Got this guy as a stocking stuffer and was pretty impressed with the over all quality of this toy. The Abomination is about an inch taller than the Hulk's from this series and is much better detailed. The articulation is the same as it is on the "Super-Possible" Hulk, but the knees aren't hindered by a pair of pants. The hip joints are a little loose, but nothing that keeps him from standing or being posed. The head has a decent resemblance to Tom Roth (the actor who played Emily Blonsky) in his mutated state. The eyes are a problem, but not as badly done as they where on the first few Hulk's. The Lead Pipe is a great accessory that can actually stay together! This is a big bonus to him. The pipe is held in his right hand...[See More]
Hulk (Shield Smash) Incredible Hulk - Movie (Hasbro) - Basic Series Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 Picked this guy up very cheap at a flea market about a week ago doing some shoping for a few people I just don't give two cents about, how it got there I don't care, mainly out of curiosity and need for some potential fodder. I popped him out of the box and was actually pretty impressed. The Shield Smash Hulk is essentially the Thunderclap/Megaclap whatever Hulk from the first series but with a new set of arms, improved head sculpt and diffrent green used for the body. The head is a great improvment, the paint much less sloppy looking and more care taken with the eyes. The jaw line has been redone some into a more traditonal snarl than roaring face and the hair is much better looking with this paint job than previous.
The body is a lighter in shade, like Ang Lee's Hulk, but with...[See More]
Snarl Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Deluxe Rated 2.00 stars by Collector1 I got Snarl only out of the sake of completing the Dinobot set and nothing more. Snarl transforms into a Triceratops with very little articulation in that mode. The transformation from beast mode to robot mode is simple, but needlessly frustrating with the instructions not giving very clear directions on rearraging the beast modes head and repositioning it. The nubs that hook his large shoulders into his main body are not alined well and the hip clasps don't connect at all, leaving him with a very loose and unweildly waist. The pop out flame gimmick in his shoulders in pathetic and adds nothing to the toy over all.
Though Snarl has his good points. The toy does well in mixing Slag and Snarl into a new form. The tail becoming to wings like constructs on his back is reminicent of the...[See More]
Oil Slick Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Deluxe Rated 5.00 stars by Collector1 Got this guy today along with Prowl and Bumblebee. I had been looking for this guy for some time and found a nice stockpile at WalMart along with a bunch of Sentinal Prime's which I'm not sure I'll buy or not. Oil Slick is prehaps the most Metal of all Transformers with a freakin' ram's skull on the front of his vehicle mode which is a quad-wheeled low riding chopper. The chopper is very loosly based on the Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle which is really freaking fast, so we can guess that Oil Slick is one of the fastest landed based Transformers yet.
The transformation isn't difficult so much as it annoying with the back wheel on mine just not wanting to click together. The two barrels can be attachted to fold out wings on his side. One can be opened up to hold water, dirt and other such...[See More]
Bumblebee Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Deluxe Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 Fun fact time! The Transformers Animated version of Bumblebee was originally meant to be Hot Shot, but after the breakout popularity of the movie Bumblebee, the name was changed accordingly. I got this guy the same time as Prowl and Oil Slick and was fairly impressed. I already new that the stingers couldn't be folded all the way into his forarms, but didn't now that the car roof on his chest is actually fake with the true roof turning into the back of his legs!
Bumblebee has great articulation and a nice head sculpt that looks like the animation model. The eyes have light pipping done, the same with the stingers and the rocket boosters. The transformation sequence is tricky and fun, but difficult to kick off because of the side panel's that need to be moved up are stuck tight. Another...[See More]
Prowl Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Deluxe Rated 4.50 stars by Collector1 I hadn't planned on getting Prowl because of the soon to be released Samurai Armor Prowl, but found out that they would alter the sculpt, so I figured I should get both. I was very impressed with the over all design of Prowl. His robot mode is tall and sleek and capable of being put in a number of great poses. The ball-jointed hips are a little loose, but that can be fixed by using some superglue on the balls and letting it cure.
Prowl has three weapons over all, two mecha shurikens which are made from his hub caps and a traffic light on a cloth cord, all of which can be held in the robo-ninja's hands. The shurikens are a little difficult to remove from the wheels, but with a little work, they should loosen up. The traffic light can not be stored anywhere, so keep an eye on it so you...[See More]
Blitzwing Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Voyager Class Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 Blitzwing is the first triplechanger of the Animated toyline is a homage to the Generation One character of the same name. Blitzwing has two vehicle modes, and three different faces for robot mode, making him a hextuple(?) changer if you want to get picky. His first vehicle mode is a jet with tracks on the bottom and his second vehicle mode is a boxy tank with dual turrets. What is amazing is how such a large toy can be compressed into such a small form as the tank which can fit into the palm of my hand with no trouble. Another kicker is that the jet modes wings fold over the front of the tank mode to make armor which is just cool in my opinion.
The transformation between the three modes is a bit a pain because the instructions don't really give you the small details needed for a...[See More]
Ultimate Rhino Spider-Man (2000) (Toy Biz) - Series 9 Rated 3.50 stars by Collector1 Unlike previous versions of the Rhino, Ultimate Rhino's costume is far more robotic and mechanical than seen before. They were able to carry this over into toy form fairly well with a great sculpt and good articulation. Rhino would be absolutly massive if they hadn't sacraficed articulation for an action gimmick the requires his right leg to be premanatly bent and his left leg stretched out to his side. Squeezing his legs togther makes his upperbody twist, head ram upward and right arm smash down.
Like I said before, the sculpt is great with thick gray pieces of rhino-hide like armor covering most of the suit but mechanical parts visible in places. The armor is covered with dents and scars to simulate battle damage from powerful weapons and probably him smashing through buildings. The...[See More]
