25th Anniversary Optimus Prime Pack (G1 Series) Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Stand Alone Rated 5.00 stars by Collector1 I had been hoping to find the next wave of Deluxe class Universe figures on my weekly trip to Wal Mart, but was disapointed to find only mostly barren shelves for the Universe line with only Galvatrons and Sideswipes left. Then, all alone at the very end of the isle was this. The 25th Anniversary rerelease of Optimus Prime. I pooped myself. For the small price of my soul and unborn child, I picked him up. This does not only include Optimus Prime, but a DVD containg the first three episodes of the original 1984 animated series, three original desktop wallpapers and never before seen Megatron and Optimus Prime character art, a reprint of the first issue of the original four part Transformers Comic, a reprint of his transformation instructions (with words!) a sticker sheet to applie to the...[See More]
Swoop Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Deluxe Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 I have been searching far and wide for this pretty birdy and finally found one about a week ago and finally decided to write a review about him. Swoop is the thinnest of the Dinobots and transformers into a mechanical Pteranodon and fights using a massive ball and chain in his ninja-esque robot mode. Swoop has a great range of motion in both modes with flappable wings in beast mode as well as a hinged jaw and ball-hinge jointed legs.
Transforming Swoop is pretty much what I've come to expect from Pteranodon mechs but with a few new tricks. The only serious problem I've encountered in his transformation is clipping the wings to his robot mode back. The pegs don't really line up perfectly with the holes which is a little frustrating, but this can be fixed, so no big deal. But what does...[See More]
Megatron (Cybertronian Mode) Transformers - Animated (Hasbro) - Voyager Class Rated 4.50 stars by Collector1 A merciless warrior and strategic genius that seeks to free Cybertron from the tryanny and into the hands of...Decepticon tyranny. The irony is either lost on him. Megatron weild a massive fusion cannon that is actually just under an inch shorter than him! The cannon can also be converted into a bladed weapon of sorts but the automorph gimmick that works the red blades doesn't function very well because of two nubs on the side of the gun which should probably be taken off some how. The gun fires a spring loaded missle that gets about a foot in range. Usually.
The fusion cannon attaches to a hinge on his right arm, but because of the struts on the hinge, it won't fold flat against the arm and throws off his balance. This can be corrected by a combination of a demeral and X-actio knife to...[See More]
End Hulk Marvel Legends (Hasbro) - Fin Fang Foom Series Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 Based on the one-shot comic, The Incredible Hulk The End: The Last Titan, End Hulk is suprisingly accurate to the aged and wounded Hulk featured in its dark and soul crushingly depressing pages. Strips of flesh have been torn from his body, exposing pink muscle while veins spiderweb across his form. His trademark purple pants have deteriated into a purple loincloth. Hulk's hair is long and turned snowy white showing that even the Jade Giant susceptiable to old age. Very well articulated, you can even recreate, to an extent, the pose from the cover of the comic.
All but four joints are ratchet joints. The head and abdomin are both swivel hinges and the biceps are just plain swivels. The wrists, knees, hips, and ankles are all ratchet swivels, bringing the total articulation to sixteen...[See More]
Waspinator (Fox Kids) Transformers - Beast Wars (Hasbro) - Transmetals - Deluxe Rated 4.50 stars by Collector1 Back in the 90's, Airrazor was one of my favorite characters from the Beast Wars cartoon and when I got the chance to own an action figure of her, even one that never appeared in the show, I jumped at it. A little backstory for this particular redeco: during the original run of the controversial Beast Machines, Beast Wars was being reaired to fill up time, so Hasbro and Fox Kids saw a chance to make even more money by rereleasing the same old toys with a new paint job and a fancy sticker on the box that said Fox Kids! on it.
Not my favorite color scheme for Transmetals Airrazor, it is still nice and easy on the optics. The main body of the robot mode is a light orange color with the upper arms and abdomen are different shades of blue. The heat-sensitive rubsign, which still works, is on...[See More]
Union Jack Marvel Legends (Hasbro) - Red Hulk Series Rated 3.50 stars by Collector1 I had only heard of Union Jack a few times and never actually read a comic starring the Brittish Superhero, but he was alone on the pegs while all the other figures had doubles and tripples, so decided to pick him up. Union Jack has three accesories: a knife, revolver (with tassels. weird), and a removable belt that hold both. Jack has all the basic Marvel Legend articulation, double hinges knees and elbows, ball joints, ect. and has a fairly bland body which would be well suited for most any custom.
The body is actually a little strange to look at with the knees and biceps large and angular, Ed McGuinness style, compared to the rest of it being fairly natural looking. The knees are also rather difficult to work with when trying to make him stand up straight and seem to always be jutted...[See More]
Silverstreak (Classics Series) Transformers - Universe 2008 (Hasbro) - Deluxe Class Rated 4.00 stars by Collector1 Wha-hoo! This marks my first review on my new computer so I figure I should make this one about my equally sexy silver and black Nissan pal, Silverstreak! Silverstreak is a redeco of the Prowl from the same line except for the lights on top of the roof removed. I was sceptical at first about buying Silverstreak, but the paint job won me over. Instead of dull silver plastic, Silverstreak is actually painted silver, giving him a much nicer and shinier finish. The over all body is very accurate to the original toy but slimmer and more articulation.
You will encounter some problems in transformation that detracts from this otherwise grade-A 'bot. During transformation, the doors have tendancy to pop off. Repeatedly. So, it is just easier to just remove them all together and add them back on...[See More]
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) DC Universe Classics (Mattel) - Wave 3 Rated 3.50 stars by Collector1 One of the greatest of Earth's hero's and champion of the Silver Age, Hal Jordan has finally got a DC Classics toy treatment. Found him at a Target in Texas and snatched him right up, being the only one left on the pegs.
Hal has the standard DC Superheroes/DCU Classics male body with a brand new head sculpt. The body appears to be molded out of green plastic with black paint. The hands are made of white plastic with the forearms painted white on black plastic. The boots are painted green and the feat are made of emerald plastic.
The ring his amazingly well done. Instead of just a lump of plastic on his fist, it is carefully sculpted to look like the ring from the comics which just blew me away. I'm giving props to Mattel for that one!
The paint on the body is rather smooth, though,...[See More]
Phoenix (Green Uniform) Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) - Series 6 Rated 3.50 stars by Collector1 This weekend, October 24-25, I had to run down my male parent's home in Texas for visitation and went around town to many of the stores and flea markets to pass time. At the Redneck Dirt Mall, I found this toy mint in a not so mint box for three bucks. I popped it open and decided to write a review.
As my first Toybiz Marvel Legend, I am fairly impressed. The hair is made of soft, flexible rubber and the face is full and nicly crafted and the body itself actual looks like a human female. The paint is smooth and crisp, though the eyes are a little sloppy, I can let that go. The Phoenix Crest on her chest is flawless, but the black paint it is on top off is a little short on the right side, so it looks like they misplaced it. The torso is made of green plastic and the limbs from yellow...[See More]
King Peter Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian (Jakks Pacific) - Power of Narnia Rated 3.00 stars by Collector1 Left for dead in the depths of space, Megatron was found the Wicked God Unicron and made a pact signed in hydrolic fluid. He would receive a new, more powerful body in return for one simple deed; the destruction of the Matrix of Leadership! Revived as the powerful Galvatron, the Decepticon War Lord sets out on a path of death and destruction!
The minute I gazed this psychotic beauty, I new I had to get it. Galvatron was originally designed as a Ultra class toy, but was downgraded to a Deluxe due to the presence of a tank-like Transformer in the Ultra Class for that wave, and it shows. Galvatron has a tone of lost potential and needless kibble.
Transformed "properly" his right cannon arm can't move all the way up due to his backpack made from the tank modes rear sides, so you actually...[See More]
