April O 'Neil (Bride of Frankenstein) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Neca) (Neca)The last (and first) TMNT/Universal Monster figure I reviewed was Raphael as Frankenstein, so it only makes sense to cover the bride next. April as Bride of Frankenstein is the first figure of this line to have already been done in the crossover Playmates did years ago, but NECA's take is entirely different from it. I don't think they could remake the original design anyways. The packaging is much like Raphael's with a painted illustration on the front and a collage of photos on the back. Both sides are very attractive, and the cross-sell is nice. This figure doesn't just combine any version of April with the bride, and is based off of how she appears in the first TMNT movie. Of course, that means she carries Judith Hoag's likeness. She has a different sculptor here, being done by Paul Harding, but the likeness greatly matches that of regular movie April. Except this isn't regular April. She has lighting bolt earrings, and a hairstyle much like the bride, but other than, it looks the same. The expressions - neutral and smiling, are also the same as that figure, but I wish she had another head with the bride's famous screaming face. Standing 7 1/4" tall, April's outfit also seems to take cues from her movie appearance. She has a long coat crawling with bugs, a sleeveless vest, and a short skirt. Her shoes have lifts on them as well, and those along with the hair add to her height. She also has bandages on her chest, arms, and legs, bolts and some weird device around her neck, and stitches all around. The paint is made up of blue skin, plenty of wash, and even the tiny stitches are painted. It all looks great, though the bandages on her hands could use some wash. April moves about as well as her regular counterpart, with plenty of good joints. The ball-jointed head has very good range, but I wish her neck had some movement to it like Raph did. The swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, and wrists allow for good arm poses, but the farthest the elbows can go is 90 degrees. The ball chest and waist combo works okay enough, though not without its limitations. The knees are much like Raph and most of the movie line, as they are a double-hinged joint with a swivel above the kneecap. They don't look perfect, but are much nicer looking than regular April. Along with those are the usual ball-socket hips, swivel thighs, and swivel-hinge ankles. A lot of poses can be managed, but there is some difficulty getting her balanced. One thing I can safely say about the bride is that she has much more than the groom. The extra head is nice, and they fit on tightly, but as I said, a screaming head would've been nice. April also has a pair of gripping hands to go with the open ones, and they come in handy with all the other stuff. Since this is based off of movie April, it's no surprise she comes with a purse, following the same patchwork design as her clothes and with a chain strap, as well as one of FrankenRaph's sai. The microphone staff is the real winner here, and the design of it is fitting considering what an old movie Bride of Frankenstein was. Also included are two experimental rats, one with a big eye stitched on and the other with a human ear, and lastly, a spider. Hey, she needs some way to get those bugs off her clothes. FrankenApril is undoubtedly a great figure. She takes an idea that has been done before and makes it something entirely new, and while some improvements could have been, she's still a fun figure. We may not have the regular Bride from NECA just yet, but this will fit just fine (though you could always get the Jada Bride). - 11/22/22 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
