Tails (Sonic Adventure (ReSaurus)) Review
Tails
Sonic Adventure (ReSaurus) (ReSaurus)As a toy collector, you often find yourself asking, "Do I really want to pay that much for this?" Sometimes you're willing to pay the price, other times you'll want to hold out for a better deal. And it's not just new figures I'm talking about; it's older lines and releases that nowadays tend to go for twice as much as they cost originally.

Case in point, look at ReSaurus' Sonic Adventure line. The figures look nice, but the high value they have has made me hold off on them. Recently, I found a Tails new in box going for a good deal (albeit still a bit over $100 total) on eBay, and decided "Hey, why not? It's not like I'll find any of these for that low again."

The packaging is a small cardback with simple graphics, but it looks fairly nice. The front has a sticker of the character in the plastic tray and a picture of Sonic in the background, while the back has a cross-sell with the other figures. It's very easy to get everything out, with a single twist-tie holding in the figure.

The head is alright for the most part, as while it does strongly resemble Tails, it's not extremely accurate, and could still use some touching up. For starters, the three strands of hair are on the side of his forehead rather than in the middle. I think that issue is mainly because of how Tails is drawn in this style, as his hair is usually on the far side of his head. If it was placed in the middle of the figure's head, it would look nicer. The forehead is also a tiny bit larger than it should be, and it could've been thinned up a bit on the sides. Lastly, the pupils are too big, and those are another part of the head that could've been smaller.

Tails stands around 3 1/2" from feet to ears, and that's an appropriate size for him, as he's meant to be a younger character than Sonic. The body is more on-model than the head, with the only nit being the neck. I'm certain Tails isn't supposed to have a visible neck, but it's possible ReSaurus did that to work in useful articulation. The arms are sculpted in different poses, with the right having a bent arm and loose grip, and the left being straight with a palm down hand. Tails' namesake looks good, though the two halves appear to have been glued together misaligned. The figure is fully-painted, which is a good touch, but there are a few clumped and fuzzy areas. It was also a little sticky when I first opened it, but given this is an over-20-years-old figure, I shouldn't be surprised.

Given Tails' design, it's clear that not a whole ton of articulation could have been worked in, but it's enough to help the figure. He gets swivels at the head, wrists, hips, and tails, and swivel/hinge shoulders of the pin/disk variety. All of the joints move well, and he can manage a couple decent poses here and there. However, Tails' crooked legs, along with the weight of his tails, prevent him from standing upright. Because of this, they included a stand in his likeness, and it's pretty well-done. Other than that, his only accessories are a ring and a clear post to let it "hover" above the stand.

Even though this little guy cost me over a hundred total through eBay, it's still a purchase I'm glad I made. The sculpt isn't the best, but the mostly-nice paint, solid articulation, and included extras to spice up his display help. While we have gotten many better and more inclusive Sonic lines since this one, namely Jakks Pacific's great ongoing line, ReSaurus' line is still pretty noteworthy for being the first action figure line the franchise got, even if it costs a ton to get them nowadays.
