Charizard (Dracaufeu) (Pokemon Select) Review
Charizard (Dracaufeu)
Pokemon Select (Jazwares)Has anyone heard of Jazwares before they started doing Fortnite figures? I’ve gotten a couple of their older figures as I grew up, and a good amount of them were hit-or-miss, and I believe the main issue with them was floppy and weak joints. The last “new” thing I got from them was a Fortnite figure set that was gifted to me for some reason, and I was surprised by how good the joints were considering their earlier work. But I’m not talking about those (maybe someday I will), I’m talking about their new Pokémon figures. They got the license through Wicked Cool Toys (which they at first owned and then merged into the host company) and did the same stuff they were doing, but now they’re doing a “Select” figure line, meant to go with their Fortnite stuff and pretty much everything Hasbro’s doing nowadays, and Charizard has the honor of being the first figure in the new line.

We got pretty simple packaging here, with mostly black and silver hues, reminding me of some of the stuff TOMY did with the license. It’s easy to open, like most boxes should be, though you will have to deal with a few plastic ties that need to be cut. Once the figure’s out of the box, you’ll see that it’s pretty well-sculpted. The proportions are all good and the articulation blends pretty well into it. The figure’s material is a mix of hollow plastic and solid PVC, but I would’ve preferred fully solid plastic (but this isn’t like McFarlane or NECA…). The body is cast in orange plastic, meaning everything else is painted on – or printed on in the case of the eyes – and it’s all quite clean. The figure stands around 5¾” tall, and it’s good considering how Charizard is supposed to be around the same height as a human.

Jazwares always liked to put as much articulation as possible in their figures, so it’s no surprise that Charizard has a good amount of it. There’s a hinged jaw, swivel/hinge head, neck, shoulders, hips, and ankles, swivel biceps and wrists, double-hinged elbows, wing and mid-wing hinges, hinged knees, and three swivel/hinge joints on the tail. Everything moves really well and all the joints allow for plenty of poses to be taken, though the tail can make it hard for the dragon to stand in certain poses. The only accessory included here is a base with an arm that hinges at both the top and bottom, and it plugs into the bottom of the figure. The hinges tend to pop apart at times, but not too much thankfully.

I’ve always been kinda iffy with Jazwares due to their poor QC from time to time in the past, but with years in the business comes improvement, and their most recent figures have proven that. While I don’t have much of their newer stuff to judge, I can confirm that this Charizard is pretty good, and it’s one of the best Pokémon figures I’ve seen. We got three more figures in the first “select” wave, but when they come out is anyone’s guess.
