Dr. Julius Strangepork Muppet Show (Palisades)PIIIIIGS IN SPAAAAAACEEEEE!!! The fourth wave of Muppet figures marked a step up for Palisades as they were no longer limited to just The Muppet Show; now they could make characters from Muppets Tonight and the movies. In correspondence with this shift in the line, the packaging changed greatly. The design went from a red curtain look to a blue color scheme, and the line was now just "Muppets." The character bio and credits on the back remained, thankfully. It also switched from a cardback to a clamshell, which aren't as easy to open (at least not without an exacto knife), but keep the contents safer. Sculpted by Camelot Industrial Artists and standing around 5" tall, Dr. Julius Strangepork has a bit of Einstein in his appearance, with hair and eyebrows made out of a soft, rubbery material. The painted wash on them is great, and the head has that usual puppet-like texture. Strangepork sports a purple spacesuit, something I don't think he ever went without. The glittery look is replicated well alongside the symbol on his chest, and the gloves, belt, and boots are a nice, shiny silver. The paint isn't perfect, however, as there are some fuzzy edges, and I would've preferred a less dirty look for the gloves and boots. Strangepork gets some solid articulation with swivel neck, forearms, waist, and shins, swivel/hinge shoulders, hinged elbows and knees, and T-crotch hips. It's pretty standard stuff, but it allows for some decent poses. I like having one of his arms up to his head to make it look as if he's adjusting his glasses. The forearm and shin swivels can be a little tight, but they break free easily. The S.S. Swinetrek's resident scientist has a pretty large accessory in the form of the M.A.M.M.A. robot, a music machine that resembles a knock-off R2-D2. Comparing it to a shot from the show, the robot is pretty spot on, being about 4" tall without the antenna, but I will admit I'm not super keen on it being hollow plastic, and the colors could have been nicer. The head on it swivels as well, but you will have to break it free. The antenna are separated from it in-box and plug in easily, but be careful with them; I dropped mine and one of the antenna snapped as a result. Strangepork's only other accessory is the Dissolvitron gun from a season two episode, and it fits well in his right hand. Dr. Strangepork is an interesting character, thanks to his glittery outfit and cool accessories. Some better paint would've been nice, but he's a fun figure regardless. Since Diamond recently announced they're making more Muppet figures, I would love for them to do this guy along with his crewmates, including plenty of gadgets and whatnot. But for the time being, I'm content getting the other Palisades space pigs. - 4/21/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
