Ultimate Foot Ninja Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mirage Comics (Neca)The Foot Clan, countless numbers of faceless goons who live to serve the Shredder and do his bidding… and they make darn good toys as well. NECA has done a handful of Foot members across different incarnations of the TMNT franchise, and the latest comes from the Mirage comics that started it all. The packaging is similar to what the Mirage line usually gets, except since this is an "Ultimate" release, there's a front flap attached to it. The flap gets some great artwork by Kevin Eastman, and the reverse side of it gives us plenty of shots of the figure. Other than that, it's all the same, including a couple of annoying plastic ties to cut out. The Foot Ninja recycles the mold used for the first version made back in the late 2000s by Four Horsemen (but not released until 2016), but with new sculpt work done by Josh Sutton and May Thamtarana. The head is fully covered by a hood with menacing red eyes, and there's two versions of it: one with a headband and one without. While both are from the original figure(s), there is a new unmasked head with a face guard, along with a hood piece that goes around the neck to accompany it. The heads look great, with clean paint work and detailed hair on the unmasked head. Standing around 6 1/2" tall, the Foot Ninja's sculpt is virtually unchanged from the original mold, save for new joints in the legs. As nice as the sculpt is, the colors are what's going to be the main issue for most. This guy is mostly blue, rather than the mix of colors the old four-pack version was, and is based off the IDW colored version of the Mirage comic. While the blues look nice, with highlights on the outfit and nice ink lines, I would've enjoyed a fully-colored version more. On the bright side, the paint is clean, and the sculpt overall looks great. As already mentioned, this is a slightly retooled version of something made back in the 2000s, but it was already perfect to begin with. The new Foot Ninja retains all the articulation the older one did, but with a couple improvements. He gets a barbell head, swivel/hinge neck, shoulders, wrists, and ankles, swivel biceps, waist, thighs, and shins, double-hinged elbows and knees, ball-jointed hips, and hinged toes. I only had to heat up the neck and a few hands to get them moving, but for the most part, all of the joints move great, even the shoulders, which are usually restricted by tight movement. I wish there was a joint at the chest for more dynamic poses, and it would've been a great update for this character. Love accessories? Then you're in luck as this figure is loaded with extras. We get some weapons from the original four-pack, including a sword, a shuriken, a knife, another knife with a curved blade, a katar, and a kusarigama. There's plenty of new weapons as well, with a katana with sheath, four smaller shurikens, a bow with four arrows, along with quiver for the arrows, a butterfly sword, and a trident. These weapons utilize both shades of blue and shiny, metallic gray, and look great with the figure. If all of the traditional ninja fare doesn't work for him, a machine gun is also included for long-range combat. The softgoods robe is a nice extra, as it fits on the figure with ease, and comes with an elastic velcro belt to help keep it tight on him. Along with the extra heads and hood, there's plenty of different hands: two fists, two grips, two arrow-holding hands, a gun grip right, and two pairs of tekko kagi claws - one open, and one closed. While swapping hands can be tough, they'll help open up plenty of display options for this character. The Foot Ninja is a really fun figure with useful articulation and a ton of accessories, and while I like the paint, I wish the figure was more colorful, like the four-pack release from years ago. That said, it looks like a properly-colored version is coming soon, and I'll definitely be picking that one up. - 9/1/23 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
