Santa Jack Nightmare Before Christmas (Neca) (Neca)Too early to feel Christmassy? It usually isn't, but it's feeling that way now that temperatures are rising. Since NECA's new Nightmare Before Christmas figures were all ready for release near the holidays, they obviously had to do a Santa Jack Skellington. The more Jack, the merrier! The same crew behind the other figures - Marty Henley, Kyle Windrix, and Andrew Lawson - did Santa Jack, and they didn't reuse any of the expressions the regular Jack had. However, this Jack only has three heads: one happy, one surprised, and one winking. Like before, the work here matches the source material very well, and the clean paint certainly helps. You can use these with the regular Jack… if you don't mind the obvious sockets on the top and sides of the heads. These are for the Santa cap and beard, and I love the work on the sculpts. There's plenty of texture to them to make them look and feel semi-realistic, and the paint is good aside from some slop, bleed, and other issues with the cap. Because of the hat, Jack stands about 8 3/4" tall, about a head higher than his regular counterpart. He's dressed in the stock red and white Santa outfit, complete with a belt and boots that reach halfway through his shins. It's simpler than his regular outfit, but the long coattails are still there. There's a subtle texture to the clothing, making it feel a bit like the material used for the stop-motion puppet, and the shade of red they chose for it is slightly dark but bold. The paint on the sleeve and boot cuffs is pretty bad, as it suffers from a lot of bleed, but at least the belt looks good, as do the hands. "Sandy Claws" Jack doesn't move too much differently from the others, sporting a ball-jointed head and neck, swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, ball-jointed hips, and a barbell chest, not to mention another barbell peg for the hat and a beard that can move up and down. The more proper ankle hinge and rocker as opposed to ball pegs really helps with deeper stances, but I found the legs getting a bit loose the more I worked with them. On the positive side, the heads and hands swapped with no issues, though you'll want to heat up the sockets for the hat and beard on the extra heads to fit them in easily. You're not getting quite as many accessories here as the regular Jack, but what's here works great with this look. The four pairs of hands - flat, pointing, relaxed, and grasping - are the same as the other Jack, though with a slight difference in finger posing. Befitting the Christmas theme, Jack gets a candy cane and three gift boxes, one small and two large (both the same mold, but different paint). There’s also Santa's sack, designed to rest on the ground and wide open enough to carry one gift at a time, and a picture frame with an illustration of Santa Jack on it. Lastly, there's the clear display stand the others got, and it's necessary to keep him standing, though its ability to keep him upright is hindered by more dynamic stances. It's sort of surprising to see NECA already including a variant in just the first assortment of figures, but Santa Jack is quite fun, even if he doesn't have quite as much going for him as the others. Some more accessories would've been fun, such as some of his creepy gifts, but I'm sure we'll get those with other characters, or at least as long as NECA is interested in doing more. - 4/29/25 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
