Iron Man (Modern Armor) (Marvel Legends (Toy Biz)) Review
Iron Man (Modern Armor)
Marvel Legends (Toy Biz) (Toy Biz)Our beloved bastich is immortalized with his very own Marvel Legends figure. And even though it came out quite a while ago it's still sought after by many fans, especially with the Civil War comics flying around.

This Iron Man suit stands 6.5 inches, which makes sense considering its an iron suit (gotta make extra room for those rocket-boosters in the boots and the giant ego in the helmet). This is the Modern Iron Man suit, and everyone wants it so be sure to get yours while you can. The figure looks pretty accurate to the comics, although I'm sure some details had to be dropped to accommodate articulation, a choice well-made. Despite the apparent bulkiness of the armor, the fig is still super-poseable! All I've been hearing is how crappy the articulation is, and you know what, you're all wrong. It can be put in almost any pose a normal ML figure can. The arms have some crazy joint system, I'm not even going to bother trying to describe it, but it works, the shoulder-pads can be moved independently so they don't hinder movement. The suit's detail is great, it has steering rudders on the back and the fingers even have screws!, but the detail is hidden by the bad paint-job, or should I say, the lack of a paint-job. The red areas are a dark drab red, they look like plastic. To counter this, the fig is dry-brushed with silver (like the Destroyer from the MODOK series), but it doesn't work too well. The grooves and plates are hidden by blandness. The yellow parts are actually painted, but are more orange than yellow, and also ineffectively dry-brushed with silver. The paint is pretty thick too, so the bolt/screw-detail in the thighs are less visible. The mask is predictably ill-fitting, but with a little trimming fits snugly on the helmet. The eyes on the mask are cut-out, so you can see Stark's blue eyes behind it. Tony's face looks pretty good, no complaints. I'm a bit confused though, isn't this suit supposed to have blue-lights all over? That's how I've seen it in the comics...

Yes, this suit has all standard ML articulation, including individually-articulated fingers! The neck also has improved poseability so Stark can look anywhere he wants, with or without permission, because that's the kind of guy he is and we love him for it. The mid-section hinge lets him tilt back, but the armor doesn't let him tilt forward much at all. Amazingly, the feet are still fully-articulated.

I'm pretty sure this Iron Man will cost you around 20-30 dollars if you can find it. It's pretty cool, but it definitely needs a paint-job to make the details pop.

The red areas aren''t really much of a red anymore, but more of a maroon-like shade. And though with that awkward-looking shoulder joint, this version of Iron Man is still top on my list. A few minuses for me aside from the color is that the upper body cannot tilt forward, and that this seems to be the thinnest-looking Iron Man. Did Tony Stark become anorexic?
4 / 5 from me as well.
Expect prices for this figure to steadily appreciate as we get closer to the movie''s launch date next year.

Hah, yeah eventually, the humidity is down now and I got the hang of the airbrush (sort of) so you should get a pretty cool (at least decent) custom, Freddie. How''s that for encouragement!

Definitely, the shoulders look wierd if you look at them long enough, but that''s what the shoulder pads are covering them for :P
Yar, it''s a bit skinny but it''s not as skinny as Iron Lad at least. The metal on Stark''s suit must be really thin, lol...

Well, Doc, (Knightmare) I must say that I agree with most of your review. This is a pretty good detailed sculpt, however I do have a few hangups with this figure. Tony Stark is supposed to wear an iron suit, but the figure looks so thin, it looks more like he is a cyborg. Lending to that is the wierd shoulder articulation, they look as if they are set out too far from his torso. If this is supposed to be an iron suit, I don''t see how even Mr. Fantastic could squeeze his arms into the ''sleeves''. I don''t think the figure is anywhere near as bulky as it should be. But other than that, I still like the figure.
