Tips on using resin to create items

I had a question for those who are familiar with the use of resin. I wanted to start making accessory parts and pieces for various ML and DCUC figures. For example, I wanted to make some clear green resin hands, hammers, and other effects for Green Lantern's ring. I've never worked with resin before. Does anyone here have some tips, or perhaps a link to a good reference source for how to do this? I don't have a 3D printer or anything, so these would have to be hand-made items.
