Need help figuring out these figures. (Graphic Heavy)

Posted in Identify Help

UPDATE: Tue Jul 08, 2014 - New Item Down Below, Headless Action Figure

Before I begin, I do know of the figures and what they are. I'm just looking for information on them, to see if anyone else has come across them or where they may have come from. Any help will be useful. I picked up these figures for less than dollar during MegaCon.

The first one appears to be a knock-off of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I think it may be a Mexican knockoff, but as you can see from the pictures, it's actually quite different in some ways. The head, arms and legs look to be molded from the TMNT figures (circa 1989), but have been modified. The upper arms appear to add more articulation by having ball-joints (the same with the upper portion of the legs). The lower section of the legs and feet are modified and the feet are different from the TMNT figures (they are flat footed, but appear to have hinge joints at the ankles). The body apparently held together with a single screw in the back of the figure. There's still pieces of flashing left on the figure, and of course the paint is worn out/scratched off in some spots. There's no copyright information on the shell, legs or feet.

This second figure I know is Gamera, the giant monster turtle from the giant monster movies. I also got this figure on the cheap, and it appears to be missing some sort of piece that goes inside the body that connects the hands, feet and shell to the body (I've included a picture of the inside of the shell to show where the connection points were. The skin I think may be vinyl (or at least some sort of rubber). I've included pictures of the feet, which they both have writing . I know this figure came out in 1995 (as one foot has the year, and writing on it, which I assume is the copyright notice for the character. The other just says "Takara '06 China".

If anyone has any information on them, please let me know. I'd like to know what I've got (especially for Gamera, as I'd like to find the piece that goes inside of it to make it complete).

Thanks. I was trying to figure out where it could have come from, maybe check for clothing/accessories for it. I picked it up from MegaCon at the same time as the Microman Gamera suit.

It may be from the Famous Covers series. They were Mego like and it would explain the headless body. I'm guessing it's leftover from someone's custom.

Still trying to figure out the headless Toy Biz body. Any idea about the line at least?

Got a figure body that needs some identification if possible. It doesn't have a head, but here's what it looks like.

Here's a size comparison to a vintage Mego Spock, as well as my tape measure to show the body's length.

Here's the most helpful clue. The body is apparently for a Marvel Comics character. The foot below has the copyright information that says Copyright 1997 Marvel, Toy Biz, Inc.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the info! By the way it looks, the Microman I need is the pink/orange/red(?) version, since the information you've provided has allowed me to look at various pictures of the line and the pink/orange/red(?) one has the Gamera suit with the same chest design. If I can't find one, I'll just have to figure out a way to have the Gamera suit held together and just have it sitting on a shelf or something.

Okay, I translated the kanji characters on his foot last night, they say 角川映画, which, romanized, is "Kadokawa Eiga", which translates to Kadokawa Pictures/Films, the company that currently owns the rights to Gamera:

That information isn't a whole lot of use as far as identifying what the specific version of Gamera toy that you have is, but, at least you know what is says.

Good news though, I'm pretty sure that I found out what you have: It's a Takara Kiguru Microman Series (2006) Gamera suit for a Microman figure (the Microman action figure goes inside the Gamera suit and the hands/feet replace, the underlying action figure's extremities. They made a similar Godzilla set as well. So, what, you need to find to complete your sample is the Microman figure (I'm not sure if any basic Microman would work of it you'd need the specific one that came with the suit).

There are several different versions, with different color schemes/designs, so, I'm not exactly sure which particular one you have, but, this should be enough information to point you in the right direction.

Didn't have much luck in spotting the Turtle Bootleg figure in the post linked. But glad to see the possibility that my initial assessment of the figure being a bootleg could be close to spot on. It could be a custom, but I don't think I've seen any customs like this before.

I'm wondering for the Gamera figure if the word "Takara" is the name of the company, and am interested to see what the translation of the characters on the other foot says.

Thanks for the info so far. Can't wait to hear back about the info on the Gamera figure.

The Technodrome Forums has a rather extensive thread on bootleg TMNT figures (51 pages); I'd recommend looking through that to see if you recognize yours (there's also an outside chance that what you have is someone's custom piece):

Yeah, that's definitely Gamera. I'll need to consult my Japanese word processing program, when I get home, to identify the kanji on the bottom of Gamera's foot, but I should be able to get back to you on what they say (probably a company name).
